IV Therapy Questions We Hear Often

How is IV therapy different from taking vitamins by mouth?

The biggest difference is how the nutrients are delivered. Oral vitamins and nutrients must pass through the digestive system before they are absorbed. IV therapy delivers fluids and nutrients directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive process. This can be helpful for patients who may have difficulty tolerating certain oral supplements or when direct delivery is preferred.

How long does an infusion take?

Treatment time varies depending on the type and volume of the infusion. Most patients can relax, work on their phone, watch TV, or simply take some time for themselves while receiving their IV.

Do IV infusions hurt?

You may feel a brief pinch when the IV is inserted. Once the IV is in place, most patients experience little to no discomfort during the infusion. If you experience pain, burning, swelling, or any other discomfort, let a staff member know right away.

What if I have difficult veins?

We understand that some patients may have small, fragile, or difficult-to-access veins. Our trained healthcare team will take this into consideration and do their best to make the process as comfortable as possible. Staying appropriately hydrated before your visit can sometimes help make IV access easier.

I want to get an IV, but I don’t know which one is right for me. Where do I start?

That’s exactly what we’re here for. You do not have to know which IV to choose before you come in. Tell us what you’re looking to support, along with any symptoms or goals you have, and our healthcare team will help guide you toward the option that makes the most sense for you.
